“We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the change it has gone through to achieve that beauty.”
Maya Angelou
This series is situated in the process of growth and change I underwent during my transition to university. I combined text with unconventional materials, such as candy wrappers and a letter from my mother, to represent three obstacles I worked to overcome: my relationship with my intellectual development (mind), my self-image (body), and my family back home in India (heart).
These prints continue to serve as a reminder that discomfort is essential in guiding me from where I was to where I wish to be.
Co-designed and modeled with two friends from Stanford FashionX.
Mostly situated in my home state of Rajasthan, India. Exploring themes of femininity and ethnicity.
